Native American Contest
July 5, 2012 thru October 10, 2012
The contest is officially closed and judging will commence tomorrow, October 11th, 2012!
Please give us a week to go through all the entries to decide on a winner.
I am just thrilled with the participation this contest has received!
Someone asked me as I was still uploading the Native American stock if they were actually stock that deviants wanted to see... Judging by the beautiful artwork made from them, both contest entries and not, and by the wonderful feedback we've received, including a Daily Deviation, I think we can safely say "YES, these were stock images deviants wanted to see!"
Starting November 1st we will be hosting another contest!I will post info on it in a couple of weeks. It WILL be holiday themed!!
Contest RulesYou must use at least ONE of our

Where do native stereotypes come from? generalizations of natives, blanketting them and shortening the descriptions, and in most if not all cases of native stereotypes (be they positive or negative) have a negative impact on the indigenous community. It is not okay to perpetuate these especially by labelling your work as fantasy and fiction, as if that is all we shall ever be.
i think you might have had a stronger piece had it any meaning whatsoever. but you did say that you did not identify as a blackfoot. by "meaning" i mean maybe it would have been a better choice to explore your blackfoot roots, find out what their traditional dress was. Who knows, maybe you might have had less success because so many people are keen to play upon old indian stereotypes. or maybe the audience would have been more inquisitive about a piece that had an actual history, not a hollywood manufactured image.
Sure it is. Honestly no one else has mentioned anything about it and your comments offend me. If you do not like something, then move on. It really is THAT simple. This is fantasy because we purposely wanted avoid singling out any particular group of people for the purpose of not offending overly sensitive people. Heck, if you could see the keywords I used you would see that we list it as "Amazonian, primitive, fantasy, fictional, Lord of the Flies, native, indigenous, etc, etc, etc"... ad nauseum. This series has been online for over a year and in that time we have had numerous Indigenous, Native American, American Indian, whatever politically correct term suits your fancy, leave positive comments on this and all 70 photos. If you are so easily offended by a 10 year old boy playing dress-up then I sincerely suggest you stay off deviantART as just like the name says, deviant, you will find a lot of things here, many of which will offend you.
(It's also been split into two separate parts, linked in the description.)
